Greensboro is known for our southern charm and southern pride. Written up my Livability.com in September 2019, Livability said “Looking for a fun, supportive city with a vibrant LGBTQ scene? Greensboro is the place to be.”
Greensboro Pride: Each September, downtown Greensboro shines like a rainbow during Greensboro Pride! From entertainment, vendors, food and more, this festival attracts residents and visitors from all walks of life. The festival is known for BIG crowds as large as 45,000 in attendance.
Guilford Green Foundation: For over 25 years, Guilford Green Foundation (GGF) has served as a safe space, place of pride and fundraising for LGBT people and concerns. Founded in the mid-90s, GGF started as one of first permanent endowments for LGBT issues in the nation. Over the years, donors and volunteers have helped Guilford Green Foundation provide nearly $850,000 to support critical organizations, innovative projects, students, and leaders—addressing existing and emerging community needs in urban and rural communities throughout the Piedmont Triad—creating the only LGBTQ community foundation in the Southeastern U.S.
GGF’s LGBT Community Center: GGF’s downtown community center is a central gathering place for the LGBT community while offering services such as healthcare, LGBT legal rights and self-advocacy, college connections, aging and transgender issues.
Inclusive City Laws and Policies: City of Greensboro consistently receives a perfect score on the Human Right’s Campaign Municipal Equality Index. The Municipal Equality Index was designed by the HRC Foundation to help residents learn how inclusive their city’s laws and policies are of LGBTQ+ people.
Triad Pride Performing Arts: Triad Pride Performing Arts consists of LGBTQ+ persons and their allies, who perform to entertain, enlighten, and enrich while promoting equality and social justice. Located in the downtown Cultural Arts Center, the organization hosts the Triad Pride Men’s Chorus, Triad Pride Women’s Chorus and the Triad Pride Acting Company.
Campus Pride: Home to seven colleges and universities, Greensboro’s campuses are full of pride. In 2023, both Guilford College and Elon University were ranked Campus Pride’s 2023 BEST OF THE BEST LGBTQ-Friendly Colleges & Universities in the Southeast.
